Thomas M. Cooley Law School is the largest law school in the country. It was founded in 1972 by a group of lawyers and judges led by Thomas Brennan, then Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. Named for a 19th century legal scholar and attorney, the school offers facilities in Lansing (its founding location), Grand Rapids, and three other cities.
Cooley grants Juris Doctor degrees and also enables students pursue a graduate or joint degree. The program offers both full-time and part-time programs designed for working adults who prefer part-time day, weekend and evening programs. Degrees may be completed in two, three, four or five years.
The Grand Rapids campus is located in the city's Heartside District, just steps away from the cultural and entertainment options of downtown. The five-story law center was completed in 2006.
